Hearing preservation workshop for surgeons

This course will be given in collaboration with Professor Thomas Lenarz, Medizinische Hochschule Hanover (MHH), Germany.

Learning Outcomes:

For recipients with low frequency hearing, the preservation of hearing is an important factor in the decision-making process. During this course, where the Nucleus Hybrid L24 cochlear implant will be used, training will consist of both presentations as well as extensive temporal bone drilling by all participants. The course will offer possibilities to share experiences of every aspect of hearing preservation surgery as well. A step-by-step plan of the surgery will be presented and will serve as a guideline for the temporal bone drilling.

At the end of the course, all participants will have received detailed information and hands-on training on how to preserve hearing best when performing a cochlear implantation using the Nucleus Hybrid L24 cochlear implant.

This course will provide information on:

  • candidacy criteria and selection considerations
  • the surgical procedure specific to optimal hearing preservation, featuring the Nucleus Hynrid L24 cochlear implant
  • the hybrid syste product portfolio
  • clinical performance and research overview
  • discussion and sharing of experiences

Who should attend: ENT surgeons who have at least one year of personal surgical experience in implanting the Nucleus cochlear implants and who wish to learn more about hearing preservation surgery using the Hybrid L24 cochlear implant.
