Advanced Surgical CI Course

This course will be given in collaboration with the University’s ENT Department, AZ St. Augustinus, Antwerp (Belgium).

Learning Outcomes:

In this two-day course, highly experienced European surgeons from various established cochlear implant centres will share their indepth knowledge and specific skills required for CI surgery by means of multimedia presentations as well as group and round-table discussions. Participants will be encouraged to bring their own difficult cases for group discussion. This course will provide information on: 

  • Difficult indications and challenges in patient selection
  • Minimal access surgery and the design of the skin flaps
  • Hearing preservation: the essential steps during surgery using lateral wall and perimodiolar electrodes
  • Advanced surgical techniques in various challenging cases, including chronic otitis media
  • Management of the ossified cochlea
  • Surgical options for common cavities

  Who should attend:

ENT surgeons who have at least one year of personal surgical experience in implanting the Nucleus cochlear implants and who wish to explore more challenging surgical cases.
